Home Owners Guide for Maintaining Your Vinyl Windows in Dallas / Fort Worth

MAINTENANCE FREE VINYL WINDOWS

Vinyl windows and doors come closer to being maintenance free than any other exterior building product. Vinyl may become dirty just as does a freshly painted house, a new automobile, or any other products that are exposed to atmospheric conditions.

Because of it's maintenance free benefits and clean surface, vinyl is the material of choice in today's outdoor market. With very little effort, you can keep your vinyl windows and doors clean.

In most cases a heavy rainfall is sufficient to clean these products. These cleaning guidelines are based on a study by the Vinyl Window and Door Institute on the efficiency of cleaning agents and their effects on the appearance of vinyl window frames after two years of outdoor exposure.

Your windows are manufactured with the highest quality vinyl windows in the industry today.

They are built to strict quality standards for years of maintenance free performance. Because of its high insulation value and easy clean surface, vinyl is the material of choice in today's home market.

NORMAL MAINTENANCE

For optimal appearance follow these simple instructions at least once every three (3) months:

Wash using a soft cloth or ordinary long-handled soft bristle brush. For difficult to remove dirt and stains refer to the stain chart above.

Follow manufacturer's instructions on use of cleaners.

In some cases you may wish to use a mildly abrasive cleaner, such as Soft Scrub®, AjaX®, Bon Ami®, etc., but the use of any abrasive material could have a negative effect on the surface of your windows.

Do not use cleaners containing aggressive organic solvents because they could affect the surface appearance of the vinyl.

Examples of such cleaners are: chlorine bleach, liquid grease remover, strong soaps and detergents containing organic solvents, nail polish remover and furniture polish/cleaners.

Energy Star Windows

Installing energy star windows gives you three major benefits. One, saving money and energy; and who doesn’t enjoy saving money? Windows, skylights, and doors that are energy star rated lower your energy bill each month. Energy star approved products use less energy reducing greenhouse gases produced by powers plants that heat and cool our homes. On average you can save anywhere from 7 – 15% of your energy bill. Here are some numbers to show the impact energy efficient windows have on your home and energy bills.

For single pane windows: homeowners can save on average $146 - $501 and 1,147 - 3,839 pounds of CO2, which equals to 59 – 196 gallons of gasoline each year.

For double pane, clear glass windows: homeowners can save on average $71 - $247 and 692 – 2,825 pounds of CO2, which equals 35 – 144 gallons of gasoline each year.

Depending on the area of the country you live in will change your energy savings throughout the year. The map below shows the average energy bill savings for each region in the United States.

The second benefit is getting and staying comfortable. No one likes to deal with changing temperatures in their house. It’s an unnecessary hassle. Energy efficient windows, doors, and skylights help regulate your home’s temperature and leave you more comfortable.

And third, Energy efficient windows, doors, and skylights also protect your furniture and other valuables in your home. They are made with a sunscreen coating to block out ultraviolet light to reduce fabric fading and discoloring.
